From the fortified town of Bretenoux to the Most Beautiful Villages of France - Loubressac, Autoire and Carennac, the medieval fortress of Castelnau-Bretenoux and the soft Renaissance lines of Château de Montal, discover the viewpoints along this route.

Don’t be afraid of some exercise and climb up to the ruins of Château de Taillefer in Gintrac for a superb view of the Dordogne Valley. Art lovers can go up the “Tours de Saint-Laurent” and admire the works of Jean Lurçat and the distant horizon …

  • BRETENOUX / 13th century “Bastide” town, Ile de la Bourgnatelle, for a fabulous picnic, arts & crafts people.
  • PRUDHOMAT / 13th century Castelnau Castle, an imposing red stone fortress and the Saint-Louis collegiate.
  • GINTRAC / Village dominated by the ancient landmark of Taillefer, unique view of the valley – excellent walks.
  • CARENNAC / «Most beautiful village of France». 11th century Cluniac priory. Cloister and Romanesque church, Deans’ castle.
  • LOUBRESSAC / “Most beautiful village of France”. Panoramic views.
  • AUTOIRE / «Most beautiful village of France». Cirque d’Autoire. Waterfall of over 30 metres high.
  • Back up to the D673;turn twice to the left at the crossroads in the direction of St Céré (D807).
  • PRESQUE / Grottes de Presque, impressive stalagmite pillars of 8 to10 metres high.
  • ST JEAN LESPINASSE / Château de Montal, jewel of the French Renaissance -  9 hole golf course and Michelin starred restaurant.
  • SAINT CÉRÉ / Place du Mercadial, Atelier- Museum Jean Lurçat in Saint-Laurent Les Tours, viewpoint from the castle.
