Following this route, which will take about half a day, you will discover the natural beauty of the Dordogne Valley, classed as Grand Site of the Midi-Pyrenees.

The small roads lead along the river lined with steep rocky cliffs, charming villages and castles perched high upon the hill tops.

Don’t miss Martel, the town with 7 towers, the basilica of Saint Mary in Souillac, the cloister of Carennac, or the famous pilgrimage town of Rocamadour, emblematic of our region and “Grand Site” of the Midi-Pyrenees.

Details of the route

  • START AT ROCAMADOUR / Grand site of the Midi Pyrenees – Historic pilgrimage town, dedicated to the Black Madonna. Sanctuaries, ruins of Saint Jean hospital, ramparts of the castle. Jean Lurçat tapestry.
  • ALVIGNAC: Charming spa town, casino.
  • MIERS: The “Source Salmière” has been known for its virtues since antiquity.
  • PADIRAC: The number one underground site in France. Boat ride on the river, 103 metres below the surface.
  • CARENNAC: «Most Beautiful Village of France».  11th century Cluny priory, cloister, Romanesque church, Deans’ castle.
  • FLOIRAC : Characteristic village on the banks of the Dordogne River.
  • GLUGES : Cross the bridge and turn to the left, follow the D43 until it crosses the D 23 at “le colombier” and go up to the right in the direction of Martel
  • MARTEL: Palais de la Raymondie, la halle (market), St Maur church
  • SOUILLAC : Basilica Ste Marie, Musée des Automates (automaton museum), Musée de la Vieille prune (distillery museum),
  • PINSAC: Along the banks of the river.
  • MEYRAGUET: Church with Romanesque nave, tomb with recumbent effigy.
