Cathédrale Saint-Front

in Perigueux
  • Founded in 980 and completed in 1047, the Cathedral is designed on a Greek Cross plan and has five domes: a magnificent bell tower crowns the ensemble. It is a so-called Byzantine construction with a large central dome, inspired by the Church of St. Archbishop of Venice (Italy - 977). Victor Hugo nicknamed it "the great mosque of Périgueux". A 12th and 15th century cloister borders it to the south-west.
