About the exhibition: Antiquity Around the Corner: Seeing and Perceiving the Gallo-Roman Public Space, on display until March 8, 2025. “Inns, Cabarets, and Taverns in Roman Antiquity” By Gérard Coulon, Honorary Chief Curator of Heritage After a presentation of the different types of establishments, the focus will be on the owners, the staff (mostly female!), the clientele, and the services provided to them. Based on archaeological finds, particularly in Pompeii and Ostia, but also on the often picturesque graffiti found on the walls and the accounts of ancient authors, this lecture will be illustrated with projections. On a rarely discussed subject, this is an original and lively lecture that is suitable for all audiences. No reservation required, subject to availability.
