Village de La Roque-Gageac
in La Roque-gageac
-
Nestled at the foot of high cliffs in a curve of the Dordogne, La Roque-Gageac is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Its houses date from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, like the Manoir de Tarde which dominates the place. They testify to the importance of the income from fishing and boating until the beginning of the 20th century. The village can still be discovered from the river axis, by gabare, a traditional flat-bottomed boat.

Former possession of the Bishops of Sarlat, La Roque Gageac was entirely fortified with its troglodytic fort, its castle, of which some remains can still be seen, and its narrow streets
A very important fluvial activity and a certain softness of life made of the village one of the most popular places of holiday of the region.
Guided tours are organized during the summer (information from the Tourist Office of Sarlat Périgord Noir).
