Le?onard Chassain was born on February 19, 1855 to a farming couple from Meymac, Le?onard Chassain and Marie Bragadour. On October 30, 1880, he married Marie Cloup in Meymac Meymac Marie Cloup from Saint-Sulpice-les-Bois. A labor migrant like so many others, he was successively a pit sawyer in the Landes region, a ?pillarot? (ragpicker) in Nantes and a wine merchant in the South of France Nantes, then a wine merchant in northern France. His wife, who remained at home, ran a cafe in the Panazol district, where he had a house built, completed in 1910.
