Antoine Vergne, born in Meymac Meymac on May 28, 1837, was a boilermaker when he married Antoinette Tatet, a local linen maid, on May 9, 1865. It was he who became the family?s first wine merchant, and no doubt a successful one at that, since on September 16, 1898, he bought the Haut-Bergey vineyard in Le?ognan from Madame Destang, widow of Ferrie Le?ognan. He went on to create Cru de Haut-Bergey and then Cha?teau Haut-Bergey. On rue des Horts de Celle in Meymac, he built a house with a beautiful frame by François Maisonial.
