Description
Chapelle de Chabrignac and Chapelle des Métayers flank the château to the east and west. The Métayers chapel was an oratory of the Counts of Lavaur as early as the 15th century. Notre-Dame des Sept Douleurs is celebrated here every year on September 8. Inside are hidden treasures such as the pietà, dating from the first building, and a series of frescoes depicting the work in the fields and a plant Virgin, the work of Guido De Bonis, a native of Fortunay. The Virgin and Child, originally housed in a niche on the outside of the Chabrignac chapel, probably dates from the 15th century. Made of polychrome wood, it was mutilated and given a superficial covering, which for a time transformed it into Sainte-Fortunade, deceiving even local scholars. Since its restoration in 2001, the work has been displayed in a showcase in the town hall.
