E. Tombe de Jean Gaye Bordas

Jean Gaye-Bordas was buried here on 3/01/1901. Born in the village of Laval de Davignac in November 1826, the illegitimate son of Catherine Gaye, widow of Léonard Bordas for 11 years, he was not recorded in the commune's birth or parish baptismal registers. Nothing is known of him until his appearance in Bordeaux in 1860, where he worked as an umbrella salesman and married Marie Chassagnade, a Corrèze woman. Nor do we know what led him, around 1865, to ?invent? a new concept of wine sales based on door-to-door canvassing and credit. It was a complete success for him and his compatriots, whom he associated with the wine trade. Between 1871 and 1895, he built houses in Davignac, Meymac and Ambrugeat.
