Jacques Ch%E8ze was born on May 26, 1841, in the village of Chaussades de Combressol; he married Marie on February 23, 1869, in Davignac
Estrade from the village of Laval. He served seven years in the military in Tonkin before becoming a peddler, then a fabric merchant, and finally a wine merchant. He also went to Nantes to “pile up” in Nantes, as his daughter Marie Jacqueline was born right there in Rezé in 1869. He was among the first merchants introduced to the wine trade by Gaye-Bordas himself, a native of the village of Laval.
In 1891, he had a house built next to the family farm by masons from the Creuse region. It is one of the very
first bourgeois houses built by merchants in the region.
