Léonard Langle, born on December 27, 1858, in Davignac, was one of the nine children of Antoine Langle, a tailor in the town, and Léonarde Agnoux. On February 12, 1889, he married Anne Simandoux, who came from a family of merchants. It was likely through this connection that he, too, became a wine merchant. He traveled throughout northern France, using Lens as his base. He stayed at the Hôtel Caron, whose son later married one of his daughters.
In 1904, he had a house built in the village of Davignac in the distinctive style of wine merchants’ homes.
