Description

Sainte-Alvère Library invites you to take part, in-house, in the readers’ choice award organised by the Dordogne-Périgord Departmental Library, “Etranges lectures”, starting on 1 April 2026. How it works: five books from different countries are put to a public vote. The five books in the running this year are: ‘Les dents de lait’ by Hélène Bukowski (Germany), ‘Le village secret’ by Susanna Harutyunyan (Armenia), ‘L’oiseau Canadèche’ by Jim Dodge (United States), ‘Comment j’ai rencontré les poissons’ by Ota Pavel (Czech Republic) and ‘Paradis’ by Abdulrazak Gurnah (Tanzania). A “taster session” featuring readings from selected passages of these books will be organised. These “unusual readings” will culminate in a ranking to be announced at the library on Wednesday 30 September 2026. Borrow the novel(s) of your choice, read them, and vote!
