Village de Beynac-et-Cazenac

In the south of the Périgord Noir, Beynac-et-Cazenac is situated on the Dordogne river, from which it controls the traffic and draws part of its wealth. It was once a stopover for the "gabariers" (boatmen) who travelled down the river carrying various goods. Inhabited since prehistoric times, it is its medieval heritage, its walled enclosure with fortified gates and its castle built from the 12th to the 17th centuries, which make it so attractive today. Discover the districts of the medieval village of Beynac and Cazenac, clinging to the cliff, sheltered by the castle. Each district or "barry" evokes the different activities of this formerly fortified village: boating, fishing, wood and hemp craftsmanship... not forgetting the role of controlling the passage through the Dordogne valley.
