Description

Les Eyzies is located in the Dordogne, in the heart of the Périgord Noir, halfway between Sarlat in the Dordogne valley and Montignac, gateway to the Vézère Valley. Nestled between cliffs and vertiginous troglodytic sites such as the Roque St Christophe, the town, nicknamed the capital of prehistory, has a concentration and quality of remains unique in Western Europe. In the centre of the town you will find the National Museum of Prehistory, an outstanding resource for the Upper Paleolithic period, a number of prehistoric shelters, and the Pole of Interpretation of Prehistory. At the entrance to the village you can visit the genuine polychromatic, decorated cave of the Font de Gaume. Meander through the narrow streets, experience its culture, and end your visit on the terrace overlooking the town, next to Paul Dardé's famous statue of the Prehistoric Man.
