Place du 14 juillet, 19100 Brive-la-Gaillarde

Description

Brive has been a crossroads of the Corrèze since prehistoric times, and the town, which was founded in the 5th century around the sanctuary of Saint-Martin l?Espagnol, took advantage of this crossroads situation to develop. A fortified town since at least the 12th century, it was able to play on alliances with powerful neighboring lords, and switch allegiances to France and the Duke of Aquitaine (King of England). A stroll through the streets reveals fine Renaissance and classical architecture, and the collegiate church of Saint-Martin offers fine examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Meeting point: Tourist Office, Place du 14 juillet, Brive. Price: 5? for children aged 12 and over. Duration: 1h30.
