Autour des ruines de Taillefer

Discovery of Carennac, the most beautiful village in France, passing along the banks of the Dordogne river and then on the plateau up to the rocky ledge where the ruins of Taillefer's castle are to be found.

At the end of a spur on the Causse de Gramat, the ruins of the castle of Taillefer (commune of Gintrac) stand out for visitors. They overlook the Dordogne Valley in a unique view of Carennac, the Bastide de Puybrun and the castle of Castelnau-Bretenoux. In the absence of written sources, extravagant hypotheses mingle with legends. However, the archaeological study of the 13th century castle's construction leaves no doubt about its strategic and military role.
