Circuit des viaducs

46200 Souillac
A circuit on the outskirts of Souillac, sometimes in the valley, sometimes on the ridge, where small heritages can be found.

At the end of the 19th century, the Paris-Orléans railway line was developed to reach Limoges and then Toulouse. Around Souillac, the complexity of the terrain required the construction of seven viaducts, the Mareuil bridge over the Dordogne and four tunnels. Built between 1880 and 1890, these engineering structures bear witness to the technical and aesthetic performances implemented to meet the need for mobility. Made of stone and steel, this railway heritage marks the landscape of these monumental arches.
