Eglise St-Martial

le Bourg, 23100 Saint-Martial-le-Vieux
The parish church of St Martial le Vieux dates back to the 12th century. It is an excellent example of a rural church built at the time of the cathedrals. In fact, the Gothic style of its delicate carvings contrasts with the squat proportions of the building and the rustic aspect of the stones used to build the walls. Threatened with demolition in the '60s, it was saved by the local population, who had it listed as a historic monument. Today, it occasionally hosts exhibitions.
