The fate of Rouffignac was to change on 31 March and 2 April 1944: in retaliation for the actions of the Maquis, the village was completely burnt down by Brehmer's Division, with the exception of the church and the three houses surrounding it; six victims, shot or killed in deportation, paid for these tragic days with their lives. Following these events and on the decision of General de Gaulle, the Cross of War 1939/45, with palms, was awarded to Rouffignac and presented on 11 November 1948...
