The New York stage will perform Strauss's Salome (from April 29, 2025), in a staging by Claus Guth based on "a Victorian-inspired set, rich in symbolism and subtle nuances of light and shadow". The title role is played by Elza van den Heever, the South African soprano who caused a sensation when she took on the role in Paris, "inhabiting the character from within with a hallucinating truth". She will share the stage with Peter Mattei as Jochanaan, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct the New York phalanx.
