The site was strategically located on the border between the Viscounty of Ventadour and the Viscounty of Turenne, close to the Dordogne valley, a major trade route in the Middle Ages.

Parking at the village of La Bastide Voie communale n°5. Drive along the hamlet and follow the road down to the gorge? then take the path on the left - signposted with pictograms.
