American conductor Joseph Swensen,
, who recently joined the ONBA, heads for France. In a concert that brings together
Ravel and Gershwin, the conductor joins forces with the stunning and atypical pianist Lucas
Debargue. They take us on a journey into the early twentieth century,
suspended on the notes of two of its greatest melodists.
When Ravel and Gershwin met in 1926, the younger asked
for compositional advice from his elder, who is said to have replied, “Why write
bad Ravel when you write such good Gershwin?” Most
of the works in this concert date from this period, when the paths of the two
composers crossed in Paris and New York.
