Jules Lopez, known as “Julo the Fat,” is an obese teenager living in a housing project
in Montpellier in the mid-1990s. In his neighborhood, teenagers binge on cartoons. Dragon Ball, an anime based on Akira Toriyama's manga, is their favorite. Julo and his gang's obsession with Dragon Ball acts as a red herring, a decoy, a distorting mirror. The story explores the delusions of omnipotence, despair, and poetry found in certain teenage mythologies. Julo and his friends invent a world for themselves, and the neighborhood becomes populated with mythical characters: the zombies in the phone booth, the gypsy clan, the son of the famous mechanic, the woman with flip-flops and a box
