Located near the prehistoric sites of Les Eyzies de Tayac-Sireuil and its National Museum of Prehistory, Saint-André-Allas has been occupied by man since the earliest ages. Proof of his presence in this town is the discovery in 1911 of several prehistoric human burials under the shelter of Pas Estret, along the road from Sarlat to Les Eyzies.
The commune shelters a village of dry stone huts in an exceptional state of preservation. The roof and the vault which cover these shelters are of a remarkable technicality which allowed them to resist time. These shelters of modest interior fittings are the testimonies of the peasants who knew how to cultivate the aesthetics and the art of the good life in spite of the harshness of the work of the ground
